Thanking our teachers

On National Thank a Teacher Day (20 May) we’d like to thank all those who teach our children and young people for their constant determination, courage and compassion before, during and undoubtedly after this strange time.

Joe Barrow, Acting Associate Head of Education at Marydale Lodge Secure Children’s Home, said:

It has been my privilege to lead our education staff here at Marydale Lodge throughout the current global pandemic, where I have witnessed their tireless devotion to educating our young people. Despite all the challenges faced during this period, it has sadly resulted in a halt to the vast majority of formal education for the UK’s young people.

Here at Marydale Lodge, we have managed to persevere and deliver high-quality learning experiences including a history project for the 75th VE Day celebrations, which all the young people loved, and also achieving meaningful qualifications in maths and English for their next steps. Our next big plans include ‘A night under the stars’ and our 2020 Prom.

It is a tangible measure of the value and affection for their teachers and teaching assistants that our young people have created such lovely ways of saying thank you on this National Thank a Teacher Day, and I would like to add my own heartfelt thanks to all of the teaching team and other colleagues here at Marydale and within the wider Nugent family for supporting our young people.
