About Nugent

Dedicated to empowering communities since 1881

We are Nugent

Nugent are a not-for-profit organisation based in Liverpool, established since 1881. We have a proven history of adapting what we do to meet the needs of the communities we serve. As a leading voice in the care sector, we look to improve health, opportunity, quality of life, and levels of achievement, whilst reducing poverty and increasing safety for all.

We operate across the North West, predominantly in the Liverpool City region, offering a diverse range of support for adults and children. Our children’s provisions include residential homes, a secure facility, and a step-down home. Our adult’s provisions include dispersed homelessness accommodation, floating support provided in the community and supported living provided at home. We also provide adult residential homes including a specialist acquired brain injury, a home for those living with dementia, and a home supporting Mental Health needs. We also offer adoption support services working in partnership with local authorities across the UK.

To reach communities beyond these provisions we have established an initiative called Our Future Now, which actively engages in a range of fundraising and community-based activities. These efforts support wider unmet needs across the Liverpool City Region and beyond.

Our history

We embrace our history as a beacon of community service. The origins of Nugent Care date back to Victorian Liverpool and the pioneering work of Father James Nugent (1822-1905) in relation to child welfare, relief from poverty and social reform. Through his ministry, Father Nugent witnessed first-hand the suffering caused by poverty and appalling conditions and took action to remedy the situation.

By the time of his death, Father Nugent had given homes and valuable skills to thousands of children and laid the foundations for the work currently undertaken by Nugent today.

Allied to the Archdiocese of Liverpool, Nugent has provided care and support for those in need since 1881. While our values have remained constant, our services have adapted to meet the changing needs of today’s society.

Our vision

Together, provide a lifelong pathway of support for individuals and communities in need.

Providing for everyone so no one is left behind.

Our values – iACCORD

In order to fulfil our mission and purpose, we must deliver on the foundation of our beliefs and our behaviours throughout the organisation. Our values support our desire to foster a culture of trust, that is inclusive, and embraces continuous improvement.

The definition of the word ‘accord’ signifies an official agreement. The values identified, come together to form this acronym, including the ‘i’ at the front of the acronym which stands for humble integrity:

  • Integrity – we are honest in what we say and do
