Marydale Lodge’s Fantastic Entries for Koestler Awards
The education team at Marydale Lodge have been working on entries with our young people for this year’s Koestler Awards, a competition that encourages creativity for people in a secure setting, and they’ve had some fantastic results!
The Koestler Awards is an annual scheme started by Arthur Koestler in 1962 after he was successful in his campaign to abolish capital punishment in the UK. The scheme was set up to award ‘creative work in the fields of literature, the arts of sciences by those physically confined’. The theme for the 2020 awards was ‘Window’, recognising that those living in a secure setting may feel even more isolated than ever due to the impact of Coronavirus on their lives.
At Marydale Lodge Secure Children’s Home we are proud of all of our young people, and in this case we are full of pride for our young people who have created these brilliant entries deemed worthy of the following recognition:
- ‘This is me’ Poetry collection: Commended
- ‘Staring out of My window’ Creative writing: Highly commended
- ‘Poems of being trapped’: Highly commended
- ‘Who am I’ Poem: Highly Commended
- ‘Biography’: Highly Commended
- ‘The man who lost his mind’ Short story: Highly commended
The above entries from the ‘Under 18s Fast Feedback Awards’ will now go forward to the main competition, with the winners being announced on 30th October 2020. We wish everybody the very best of luck!
