Nugent Gala: Celebrating over 140 years of caring for those in need
Attendees from across Merseyside gathered at the Nugent Gala to celebrate over 140 years of Nugent caring for, inspiring, educating and protecting those in need within our communities.
The Gala, sponsored by Krol Corlett Construction, is the inaugural celebration which will lead to an annual event celebrating Nugent’s vital work. Nugent has been serving the local communities since 1881, providing crucial support to those who need it with the support of its network of schools, care homes and community and social work services.
The guests were welcomed to the historic Rum Warehouse in the Titanic Hotel with an exclusive drinks reception sponsored by the Pentone Family. They were also treated to a beautiful performance by an acoustic singer, Harry Holmes, and some stunning stilt walkers to kickstart the evening!
The event was hosted by a former Great British Bakeoff contestant, Lizzie Acker, who hosted a fantastic biscuit decorating competition and introduced Nugent’s CEO, Normandie Wragg, to welcome everyone to the celebration. The Nugent Gala also saw some notable guests including lord Lieutenant of Merseyside, Mark Blundell, Lord Mayor Lady Mayoress of Liverpool, Roy and Roz Gladden, as well as Nugent charity patron and LFC Legend, Phil Thompson.
The guests were dazzled by the night’s entertainment as they had the pleasure of seeing the exclusive performance from the local legends Hope Street Busking Band; it was a sure way to get the party started. As the guests dined on their specially crafted 3-course dinner, they were blown away by a spectacular show from a magician. The guests were delighted to receive complimentary goodie bags provided by Pure Birkdale, a guest from each table also found themselves to be the lucky winners of photography vouchers courtesy of Yaffe Photography.
The evening also saw a luxury raffle and a thrilling live auction, prizes for which have been generously donated by local Merseyside businesses to help raise funds to help Nugent continue to provide much-needed support to the local communities.
The Nugent Gala generated a total income of £33,828.11 thanks to the amazing generosity of all the supporters!
The funds raised will be used to help bridge the gap to help young people transition successfully to adulthood when leaving care. As there is currently very limited funding, Nugent are aiming to help individuals as young peoples’ journeys in the care system can vary for many reasons, including the trauma and neglect they may have experienced before entering care.
Lizzie Acker, the host of the Nugent Gala, said: “I had a fantastic night hosting the Nugent Gala. It truly showcased the best quality of being a scouser and the generous and supportive community that we live in. I loved seeing everyone’s biscuit creations, especially that one that included Harry Styles!”
Nugent would like to thank all those who attended and supported the event and helped raise an amazing amount of funds to help those in need.
Thank you to the sponsors: Krol Corlett Construction, Pentone Family, Lynbrook, Yaffe Photography and Pure Birkdale. And thank you to all the businesses for their support in donating prizes too. Without the incredible support, this event would not have been a possibility.
