The Knights of Saint Columba raise over £9000

The 2017 Knights of Saint Columba annual sponsored walk, from Albert Dock to Aigburth raised over £9000 in support of Nugent’s Gubay Crisis Fund on Sunday 24 September.

We are all very grateful for the Knights continued support.

In the photograph Sue MCole from Barclays, who provided £3,000 matched funding and Council 9 Grand Knight David Linford, present the cheque to Marie Reynolds, Caritas Manager at Nugent. Approximately £ 1000 was raised through Gift aid which brings the grand total to just over £9000.

The Knights of Saint Columba is a Catholic fraternal organisation, the largest of its kind in Britain. Founded in Glasgow in 1919, it is named in honour of Saint Columba, a Christian missionary from Ireland who helped introduce Christianity to the people of Northern Britain in the 7th Century. We are dedicated to the principles of Charity, Unity and Fraternity and have more than 4,000 members in over 300 Councils across England, Scotland and Wales including 10 on Merseyside.

Membership is limited to practicing Catholic men aged 16 or older. We exist to support the mission and doctrine of the Catholic Church and at the same time to work for the “spiritual and material good of its members and their families”. We follow the social teachings of the Catholic Church and work for the moral and social welfare of our communities and in particular to help the development of young people.

A familiar part of our activity is fundraising and there have been many campaigns over the years like the present one in support of the work of Nugent.
