Nugent raises over £18.5K at Phil Thompson Golf Classic!

The Sixteenth Phil Thompson Golf Classic sponsored by DMR Robinson, took place on Thursday 26th May at Hurlston Hall – an 18 hole golf club set in 200 acres of the picturesque Lancashire countryside.

The event has been an outstanding success having raised a gross total of £18,500 so far!

This year’s focus was to raise much needed funds to create therapeutic environments for our young people who are vulnerable, traumatised and disadvantaged, and have been assessed as needing the highest level of safety and protection. Nugent are the only charity in the country which operates an ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted rated secure children’s home.

The Sixteenth Phil Thompson Golf Classic was sponsored David M Robinson who continues to be a valued member of the Nugent Family. On behalf of all of our beneficiaries and from everyone at Nugent, we would like to say a huge thank you for the continued support and generosity!

Nugent’s Executive Leadership Team were present at the event, this included CEO Normandie Wragg, COO Dr. Kate Herod, and DCGO Jo Henney. The evening dinner was followed by speeches from Nugent’s CEO who introduced Dr Kate Herod. Dr Herod reminded the guests what the day was all about: the vital work Nugent does with children across the country. Dr Herod told a heartfelt story of a beneficiary who came to Nugent with no belongings and not having bathed in over a year. The team at the secure children’s home worked tirelessly to gain Liam’s* trust and help him grow his confidence in himself so that he could continue his education and gain his GCSEs. She also discussed the dire need for a refurbishment of the outdoor garden areas for the children and young people at the secure children’s unit, as it is often the only area where they can experience the outside. The funds raised from this event will allow us to create the new space so that everyone can relax and unwind in the new gardens.

The players were treated to the guest speaker, LFC Legend Mark ‘Larwo’ Lawrenson. ‘Lawro’ recalled his illustrious career at the Liverpool Football Club, entertaining the guests with memorable stories throughout his career. He finished with a Q&A session with the guests where everyone speculated over the Champions League Final outcomes.

The evening finished on a high as Phil Thompson handed out the awards from the golf game with Hilton Liverpool winning the first place for the second year running!

Nugent would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for supporting and making the Sixteenth Phil Thompson Classic a success!
