Important Service Update

After more than 80 years of supporting children and families through adoption, Nugent Adoption closed on 30 November 2025.

This service has been an important part of Nugent for generations, and this has been a difficult but unfortunately necessary decision.

The closure follows a period of significant financial and operational challenges, including sector-wide recruitment difficulties and a notable reduction in adopter numbers. Despite our best efforts, these pressures meant the service could no longer continue in a sustainable way.

Throughout this transition, our priority has been ensuring that the people we support continue to receive the care and guidance they need.

For families in England:
Adoption Matters is now supporting those who were in the adoption process or receiving post-adoption support.
For families in the Isle of Man:
Manx Care is now supporting those who were in the adoption process or receiving post-adoption support.

Adoption Records
Records for families in the Isle of Man are now held by Manx Care.
Records for families in England will be transferred to St Helens Borough Council.

We know how important this service has been to so many, and we remain committed to ensuring families feel supported during this period of change. Thank you to everyone who has been part of Nugent Adoption’s story over the past eight decades.
