Following the huge success of our previous overseas fundraising challenges, including the Arctic Challenge and the Sahara Trek, we’re inviting you to be part of our next unforgettable adventure.
While our original plan was to take on the Wadi Rum desert in Jordan, ongoing circumstances in the Middle East have led us to choose a new destination. We are delighted to be heading to the breathtaking landscapes of Sri Lanka, offering an equally rewarding challenge filled with adventure, culture and unforgettable scenery.
Experience Sri Lanka like never before. You will cover 100km of challenging terrain through the dramatic Central Highlands, a region rich in natural beauty, cultural heritage and authentic adventure. Trek through rugged ridgelines, dense rainforest, sweeping plains and world-famous tea plantations as you explore areas rarely seen by tourists.
Over five days of trekking, you’ll tackle more than 3,000 metres of ascent and 2,400 metres of descent, including the legendary climb up Jacob’s Ladder. Each day brings a completely different landscape, from pristine trails winding through vast tea estates to remote mountain passes, stunning valleys, beautiful lakes and untouched wilderness.
Along the way you will:
- Conquer the legendary V-shaped mountain pass known locally as Jacob’s Ladder
- Discover the incredible flora and fauna of UNESCO-listed Horton Plains National Park
- Trek through working tea estates, colonial-era factories and villages built around Sri Lanka’s tea industry
- Experience the warm hospitality of local communities
- Venture off the beaten track to areas untouched by mass tourism
- Enjoy spectacular views of Adam’s Peak, a mountain revered by Buddhists, Hindus, Christians and Muslims alike
At the end of each day, you’ll relax in a mixture of comfortable hotels, guesthouses and traditional homestays, sharing your experience with fellow Nugent supporters while enjoying the warmth and hospitality for which Sri Lanka is famous.

This means that you pay the cost of the whole trip yourself and your fundraising is done separately:
Pay £2195 directly to Tribal Tracks (this includes a £600 non-refundable deposit required on booking and your final balance of £1595 paid 10 weeks prior to departure).
In addition to the cost of the trip you must fundraise a minimum of £1,000 via your JustGiving page.
Every penny you fundraise will come direct to Nugent
Option 2: Fully-Fundraised
This means you ask family, friends and businesses to sponsor you
You pay a £600 non-refundable deposit to Tribal Tracks on booking
Fundraise a minimum of £2595 via your JustGiving page (80% of this target must be raised 10 weeks prior to departure)
The cost of your place on the Sri Lanka trek will be paid to Tribal Tracks from the funds you have raised and the remaining amount will go Nugent.
Is this trek suitable for me?
It is important that you read the itinerary carefully and consider the challenge rating before booking.
Although this is not a technical trek, it is physically demanding and requires a good level of fitness. Participants should be comfortable walking for between 5 and 8 hours each day over varied and often challenging terrain.
The route includes significant ascents and descents, mountain trails, rainforest paths and exposed ridgelines. You will enjoy the experience much more if you prepare well and undertake appropriate training before departure.
If you’re looking for a challenge that combines adventure, breathtaking scenery, cultural discovery and the opportunity to transform lives through fundraising, then the Nugent Sri Lanka Highlands Challenge could be for you.
