Nugent Finalists for Four National Children & Young People Awards

Three Nugent colleagues and one Nugent Service are finalists in the prestigious National Children & Young People Awards

The unique awards celebrate excellence in care for children, young people and families, showcase innovation and best practice in this area. They also pay tribute to those individuals or organisations who excel in quality care provision.
Nugent has finalists in three of the awards. They cover a range of Nugent’s services and highlight the wide range of excellent work the charity delivers every day.

Meet our Finalists

Jo Henney, Deputy Chief Executive and Chief Governance Officer
The Newcomer Award

Jo started with Nugent in the Spring of 2019 and immediately set to work on an intensive ‘turnaround’ project at Marydale Lodge, taking it from an Inadequate service to a Good service in a matter of 12 weeks.

Jo adds:

“I am beyond proud to be recognised for this award, however, I must mention the support of all my colleagues within Nugent and the dedication of Marydale staff for never giving up on our young people. It has been their ability to adapt and grow that has allowed this provision to go from strength to strength, achieving Outstanding just 22 months after the initial Inadequate rating.”

Jo Lloyd, Registered Manager at Nugent Adoption
The Fostering & Adoption Award

Despite only being with Nugent for just over five months, the vital work Jo and her team do on a day-to-day basis is not going unnoticed.

“I’m really proud to be leading a team that is dedicated to providing a really bespoke service to our families. This nomination acknowledges the hard work that goes on behind the scenes, sometimes over many years, in supporting our Nugent community of adopters and children.”

Dr Kate Herod, Head of Secure Children’s Services and Registered Manager at Marydale Lodge
The Children’s Home Manager Award

Dr Kate has overseen tremendous rejuvenation and success at the Marydale facility, including an excellent Oftsed inspection recently.
This has been a point of immense pride for everyone at the charity, including CEO Normandie Wragg, who said:

“This was a whole organisation achievement from the staff and teams within the home to all of the business support staff and teams who diligently support the service so that they, in turn, can ensure the best for the children in our care. Our Governance Framework: a Culture of Excellence, is a very helpful tool in achieving these results. On behalf of the Trustees and the executive, I would like to thank all who were involved in achieving this wonderful outcome for Marydale and for Nugent.”

Suzanne Murray, Registered Manager for Marian House
The Children’s Home Team Award (North)

Marian House is delighted to be shortlisted for the finals of children’s home team North for the National Children & Young People Award.

Care homes have faced their toughest times in recent months and Nugent is delighted to have their hard work and dedication recognised.

Suzanne agrees, saying:

“We would like to thank everyone who has nominated us. Marian House is motivated and committed to ensuring that the children and young people we care for aspire to reach their full potential and achieve excellent outcomes personally, socially and educationally.
The golden thread that under-pins our practices is our outward-facing approach to working with wider systems and implementing innovative thorough processes for communication. Marian House’s team spirit is an inspiring concept: Together Everyone Achieves More”.

Glitz and Glamour

The final event will be held at the ICC Birmingham on Friday 22 October. The gala dinner will include a drinks reception, dinner, entertainment and dancing, and will be compered by Steve Walls.

The news comes, as Nugent has also been shortlisted as a finalist for two other awards; the Local Hero Award and Business of the Year Award at the Innovation in Business Awards.
